those little green apples

it's all a matter of proportion-

A is for apple and I bet you drew them with the red crayon, didn't you?  This little painting (and it is little- 3" x 3"- probably smaller than what you can see on your screen right now) is a thumbnail/study for a bigger painting I've been thinking about for a while now.  In the meantime, this one was great fun, and is scheduled to head to Hampton for the small works show at Charles H. Taylor.

In my own little corner in my own little room...

Is it a bad thing to want to live in a painting?  Is it a little odd to organize one's rooms to be "interiors"?  Most of my house isn't ready for prime time, but the one I retire to and wake in is closer than most- even as I looked over paint swatches, I knew I'd come to paint it.

Just about there, on both Mary and the roses.

flowers, and more flowers

I've said it before, and I'll say it again- flowers give me more trouble in the translation to canvas than anything else I can think of.   This seems patently unfair, given how much I like flowers, and how many of them grace my domestic situation- unlike hills in this neck of the swamp, flowers are everywhere- my garden in particular exceeds the bounds of its beds regularly.

So when I decided to paint Mary Mac, with roses, because it is so fitting, I knew what the hardest part would be, and so far, and I'm about 80% done, I'm right.
